Sacred Ibis
The Sacred Ibis is a waterbird found mainly in parts of Africa and the Middle East. They are white-bodied; with a bald, black head and slender black beak. These birds love the mud, and will need some type of aquatic enclosure to wade through and scavenge in. Marshes, swamps, creeks, ponds are all suitable habitats. They will nest close to the water. Breeding season is typically between March through June. Expect 2 eggs per clutch. These birds are excellent flyers. An enclosure with a netted top is a must-have.
As opportunistic carnivores, their diet consists of snails, frogs, mice, aquatic invertebrates, snakes, eggs, even small birds. The Ibis’ carnivorous appetite can be supplemented with dry or canned cat food. The Ibis mixes well with cranes and waterfowl, so long as there is protection for other species’ eggs and baby birds.
Our Ibises are not pinioned. Clipped wings are available at an additional $2.50 per bird, and the trimming can last 4-6 months.
